Communications and Administrative Support Officer

Starting salary £18,000 depending on experience

An administrative position has become available to support to the Chief Executive with communications and administrative support for the efficient and effective management of the Selby Trust's governance function, training and development programmes, projects and partnerships, income generation and sustaining continuous improvement. The post-holder will provide high quality administrative support in a charity context, being highly literate, numerate with a strong proficiency in computer skills and ability to communicate using social media and perform effectively as a point of liaison, ability to write reports and minutes, plan work and work to deadlines effectively.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week including evenings and weekends

Job Purpose: To coordinate and facilitate a programme of community based peer support group sessions, and to co-ordinate and facilitate outreach activities.

Bubic is a dynamic and innovative award winning community based organisation that provides support for drug users, ex-drug users and our local community. Bubic’s unique strength lies in our approach, we work in and with communities to encourage and support

ex-users to become peer mentors and advisors. We work in partnership with voluntary and statutory agencies, providing clients with volunteer mentors who offer advice, guidance and support. We undertake outreach activities to engage hard to reach individuals in the community and also provide peer support sessions in priority neighbourhoods in Haringey.

At Bubic we have ambition. We believe in a society free from problematic  alcohol and drug use. To achieve this we are looking for people who can lead our teams in delivering excellent services to our service users and our community.

You will be a confident team leader who is passionate about supporting our service users to move into recovery and giving our team members the support they need to help this happen. The most important things you will bring to this role are your positive attitude, enthusiasm, integrity and ability to use initiative as well as your belief in our ambition: to eliminate the problems of drug and alcohol use within a generation.

You will need to have good writing and computing skills, and be able to work confidently with all Microsoft programs. You will also need to be very organised, have excellent communication skills and the ability to work to strict deadlines.

General Volunteer Opportunities

We offer travel expenses and lunch expenses to those who volunteer for over 4hrs a day.

Job Description:

  • Assist in providing regular content for the Charities various social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook.
  • Assist in ensuring photographs of key events are taken and posted.
  • Work with the other 40 to find out key events, projects or information that they would like promoting.
  • Assist (where possible) on ‘live tweeting’ of events.
  • Responding to queries via Social Media
  • Assist with the marketing of the Selby Trust and their projects at local community events.

Who We Are Looking For:

This would suit someone who has either worked in a similar environment previously (including as a volunteer), or someone who uses social media as a hobby and wishes to gain experience on how to develop this within the workplace.

We expect you to:

  • Have some knowledge of how social media works
  • Work well within a team and on own initiative.
  • Have clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be able to work with a variety of people.
  • Be able to work in a busy office environment

Job Description

The Selby Trust’s Global Gardening Project is a series of initiatives aimed at bringing local people together to:

  • Create opportunities that improve the local landscape
  • Promote and increase awareness of growing fruit, vegetables and herbs in urban areas
  • Increase awareness of alternative ways of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through improved diet and exercise

Who We Are Looking For:

We are looking for someone who enjoys gardening or wishes to start learning how to grow their own fruit and veg. Possibly you have always wanted an allotment but never were able to. 

Times:

We are looking for someone who can come in at least once a week on either Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays between 9am - 3pm. We will accomodate those who need to work around school hours.

Commitment:

We are looking for someone who can commit at least 8-12 weeks.

Other:

We will supply tools and equipment, however volunteers will need to bring their own suitable clothing.

Job Description:

  • Offering general admin support to staff at the Selby Trust (i.e. taking minutes, helping with filing, photocopying for big events).
  • Answering telephone queries.
  • Assisting visitors who present themselves at reception.
  • Maintaining the information displays around the centre (leaflets, boards etc.)
  • Dealing with distribution and collection of post.
  • Ensuring that signage around the building is up to date.

Who We Are Looking For:

We are looking for someone who can work good as part of a team, has good customer service and communication skills. Is able to use IT. Would ideally suit someone who has experience in a similar role or is hoping to work in a similar role in the future

Job Description:

We are seeking a volunteer to assist us with our funding bids and applications. The role includes:

  • To research potential partnerships and assist in the development of project proposals
  • To research funding opportunities and assist in the development of grant proposals
  • To research commissioning opportunities
  • To develop fundraising strategies
  • To explore self-financing opportunities
  • To source CSR opportunities from local and national companies

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understanding the bidding process
  • Some experience of a similar role

This role would suit someone previously working in a fundraising environment who may have retired or is considering returning to this field and would like some recent experience. However we are happy to work with someone who has the desire to develop experience in this field if they have the right qualities.

Job Description:

We are looking for gardening volunteers to help us maintain the grounds of the Selby Centre. Ideally this would be someone with a keen interest and enjoys gardening, horticulture and plants who enjoys working outdoors and working on their own initiative.

Role:

  • Pruning
  • Hand-weeding
  • Planting
  • Basic up-keep of the external parts of the centre.
  • Leaf raking
  • Clearing footpaths 

Who We Are Looking For:

We are looking for someone who enjoys gardening and working outside. We want you to see this as a role where you can expand on your hobby.

Times

We are looking for someone who can give at least one day a week on a weekday (10am - 4pm). We will be flexible around childcare/school timetables. We are happy if you are only able to do half a day and we can discuss weekends if needed.

Job Description:

The Selby Trust is a local charity based in Tottenham, North London. We work for the local community in developing projects around community development, environmental sustainability, economic development and community justice.

We are looking for a volunteer to undertake small DIY tasks and repairs - little things that would make a huge difference to the people who use the service, staff, volunteers and visitors to the Selby Centre and to keep the building looking presentable.

Role:

  • You will have:
    • Some experience in painting and decorating.
    • The ability to assist with minor fixes (i.e. broken door handles).
    • Basic understanding of plumbing (i.e. clearing blocked sinks)
  • You will work alongside a team of site staff who would be very happy to have the support. You hopefully enjoy painting, decorating and fixing things.

 

Times

We are looking for someone who can give at least one day a week on a weekday (10am - 4pm). We will be flexible around childcare/school timetables.

  • Place items online on our eBay charity shop (test items, take photographs, write honest descriptions etc.)
  • Ensure the items are dispatched or collected (a majority will be collected)
  • Market the items on the internet for maximum exposure (i.e. Facebook, mailouts, etc). 
  • Assist in selling items locally to other charities and voluntary sector organisations.

  • Assist the team in purchasing items (mainly DIY items) in preparation of the event
  • Help the team in shopping, placing items in safe place onsite and keep track of budget
